About the Journal

About

The journal Curare contains topics on all aspects of health, illness, medicine and healing in the past and present from all regions of the world. It was founded in 1978 by the AGEM - Association for Anthropology and Medicine (until 2018 Arbeitsgemeinschaft Ethnomedizin). Until 2007 it bore the subtitle Zeitschrift für Ethnomedizin und Transkulturelle Psychiatrie, since 2008 the subtitle has been Zeitschrift für Medizinethnologie. It is bilingual (German and English) and the articles are subject to a peer-review process. There are currently two issues per year. We welcome articles, reports, book reviews and suggestions for themed issues at any time. You can find out more about the procedure here.

The digitisation of all volumes of Curare that were previously only available in print is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In addition Curare will continue to be published in print by Reimer Verlag.
